Debbie was a lovely woman; from time to time, she would make mention of Zack and things that he liked or disliked. While I appreciated what he was doing for me, I was humiliated that he had called one of his former girlfriends to assist me and that he had told her what I wanted in a place. Not that I didn’t like the suggestions that he gave her, but I didn’t feel that it was his place to advise Debbie on what I was looking for in a home.

The two of us ladies were as opposite as could be. I was plain Jane compared to her high-maintenance self. I wore slacks, a blouse and a pair of flats. She wore a fancy suit with four-inch heels. I barely had any makeup on, and she looked ready to model.

Despite our differences, she found four properties for me to see. All of them were in safe neighborhoods with secure buildings, and I found one that was just slightly out of my price range that would work. I would just have to tighten my purse strings and work hard. Perhaps I would find a second job once I was feeling better.

I was glad I didn’t have any headaches today, and on the way back to Zack’s place, I decided it was time to leave.

Zack had made it clear today that I was no longer welcome in his home. The fact that he sent me money without even speaking to me and then called Debbie only drove that point home.

I wasn’t going back to my apartment, though. I had learned my lesson there, but I couldn’t stay with Zack anymore. Not after how this all went down. I found a hotel not far away and decided to stay there for a few days until my apartment was ready.

Then I would have to find someone to help me move. Would Zack be willing to help me? Did I even want to ask him?

I thought of Paul and wondered if I could ask for his assistance. Zack might not like that idea, but this wasn’t about him.

Back at Zack’s place, I packed my things and then sat down and wrote Zack a note. I knew he would be coming home soon, and I didn’t want to be here when he arrived. The last thing I wanted to do was argue with him.

It seemed almost surreal to be packing quickly and rushing out the door. Sort of like I had with Wade. He had been downright evil after announcing he wanted a divorce, and I figured out quickly that not being at the house when he arrived home was a better idea. Not that I expected Zack to be anything like Wade. They were as different as I was from Debbie.

It took two trips to take everything down to the garage, where my car was now parked in one of Zack’s spots. He had someone retrieve my vehicle and replace the tire before he brought it over here and parked it in his second spot.
